We rely on our community members to report any potential fraud to us so that we may further investigate it and take appropriate action.

While most individuals who use Kijiji have success with buying, selling, renting or connecting with others, from time to time we do get reports of people attempting to scam or defraud our users. We have found that one of the best ways to address this problem is to ensure that all transactions take place locally and in-person. Remember that Kijiji is a local classifieds web site and ads are not reviewed before they go live on the site.

We suggest reading our Safety Tips in the help section on our home page to help ensure a safe transaction on our site.

Thanks!

99% of all scams occur from Nigeria. Some Nigerian goes into an internet cafe, makes an yahoo email address (most of them do) then email you telling you that they are interested in purchasing your item, and to provide them your name, address and so on, so they can "send" you a money order, which they don't, and if they do, its fake. Some even send you fake paypal instant payment. So becareful. I had most of them from craigslist, but they thought they could fool me.

I was very grateful for having the scammers info. posted on my ad. The very first reply I got about my ad was more than likely a scammer. At first seemed normal and was asking if I still had the pup for sale. I replied yes, and the next e-mail I received was from a completely different e-mail referring to payment and shipping info. asking for all of my personal information and promising payment for the pup and shipping costs. (Mind you my ad specifically said pick-up only.) That sent up a red flag for me, so I replied and stated that it was a pick-up only and if he wanted to continue with this arrangement that we would write up a contract of expected duties to be carried out by each party securing that the deal went through successfully. I told him with the contract written up, he would need to send all funds and they would have to clear prior to shipment of the pup. Needless to say, there was no reply after that. Your first instinct is almost always right, and if you receive replies like this, don't fall for it. I enjoyed e-mailing him back to let him know I KNEW what was going on. I hope this helps anyone. Smile

I had a lady from CA. who emailed me wanting to buy all of my 6 Bichon puppies and she wanted me to send them through the mail to her. I told her that my AD. clearly says to good homes only and you must pick up the puppie in person (I live in PA.) I also told her that I don't sell to Labs or Puppy Mills and this was her response....

"Hello,
Thanks for the mail, I need a male and female am ok with the price as for the payment i want to inform you that i have a client that is oweing me sum of $4000 and he has agree to pay me with a usps postal money order so i will tell him to issue you the money order after you get and cash the money and you deduct the money of the sales of your item what i want to clarify now is that would you be able to send the remaing balance to my shipping company through western union money transfer so that they can come down to your location to come and pickup the item if you agree to assist in this capacity i will compensate you with $100 so send me your full name your address and your mobile phone number so as
to forward to my client to issue you the money order immidiately.
Regards.
Marry" email address:marries_jackson@yahoo.com

I think that this is clearly a scam and when I told her I thought it was a scam she never emailed back...

Oh yeah. If the "buyer" asks you to accept a check for more than the amount of the item and wire back the difference, it's Scam-o-Rama time.

They like the UK too, had marries_jackson@yahoo.com try to buy my laptop last week. I think offering 2 grand for a 400 notes piece of trash was a bit suspect Razz

In the last 10 days I've 'won" or been eligible to receive over 50 million dollars ! Hard to believe huh ? You betcha it's a scam! For some reason I feel compelled to pull them up just to read the tramatic story envolved. They are definately a PITA but lately I've decided to have some fun with them. Now I reply to all of them with the same response. " Thank you for e-mailing me ! I am currently a member of a task force set up to investigate Internet Scams and Frauds. Your e-mail has been forwarded to the US Attorney Generals Office. Feel free to contact me again. Have a nice day. " Since I've started doing this ( the last 7 days) , I have only received one such e-mail ! If they can lie then so can I.I may still get a new one on occasion but this is much more fun than just deleting them. I am not concerned about a virus as we have the best anti virus programs available with sweeps every 5 minutes.plus back up, of course. This may not be for everyone, but it's working for me. just to let every one know they can find your name and address too
i just got 4 american express cashiers checks each one in the amount of $500.00 in the mail with a letter stating to cash them and ship a pup to them in west virgina along with there name and address and was to keep and extra $300.00 for my troubles send the rest of the cash along with the pups.
i had not been contacted by any one wanting my address or name
so they got it some how
a friend of mine said they could of called me
just asking for dirictions to my house as if they was coming to buy a pup
not thinking of course you give people you name and address so it kinda makes it scary to even have people coming to your house now.
of course i call american express and the ran a check on the checks and they where scams so i sent them toamerican express so they could take the next steps.
so becareful in every way

Okay, I do see a report icon but it's not very noticeable. Perhaps using a link that says Report Post would be more helpful here.
