I lived abroad for a few years and know that there are schemes being hatched all the time so be careful and check everything.

That sounds very much like a few other scams I've heard about in the past few weeks. Just like your story, the victims received a check and was asked to deposit the check and send back a certain amount of money via western union or wire transfer, and lost their money after the check they received bounced.

The only thing with the check that came for me was that it was wrapped in a plain white sheet of paper with no directions at all. There wasn't a return address either (it came from Namibia???)

I have been getting calls all morning. The first was from the following number: 2348086104090, then a bunch of unknown and private calls. I answered the first one but I couldn't barely hear the person after that I just stopped answering.
