|
|
| The vet gave me two cans of Science Diet to give Tinker to give him since he had his vomitting issues and his tummy might have gotten upset which he could have gotten into a number of things, I caught him actually eating tissues tonite, not just shredding but eating, I think he is trying to tell me he doesnt like Science Diet. I usually feed the Greyhound boys Chicken Soup for Dog Lovers Soul food and it is awesome and has no junk in it and he has been eating it ever since I got him. Science Diet stinks compared to Chicken Soup. Also isnt switching him to Science Diet just going to upset him more since it would be considered switching foods. One of the questions they ask when dog is having trouble is "have you switched foods latley as that can make them upset" I think thats just silly to say switching foods is bad one minute and encourage it the next. I know vets dont do alot of research in nutrition and into dog foods and I dont think the vet knows what Chicken Soup food is, probably thinks its some sort of cheap dog food gimik. He probably just grabs a bag of science diet from the clinic to feed his and probably never thinks about researching different foods. I know some here feed Science Diet and I hope you dont take any of this personally but CHicken Soup is pretty darn good stuff and its available to me so I go for it. My main gripe was the encouragment to switch when what I feed is perfectly fine and possibly better when instability is possibly a part of the problem to start with. |

| I just switched my dogs off of science diet, they were all doing ok than my adult male chi had a reaction to it so I looked at the ingredients and realized its corn based and like seiberts said, a big bag of crap! |

I have some questions myself about dog foods.
Can you tell me what the ideal ingrediants would be for a dog food?
And I know corn filler is a big no no but what else is? I would like to go comparison shopping. |

My dogs were being feed Pedigree, we tried slowly switching them to Avoderm (had that from the Mastiff) but they wouldn't touch their food with it in the bowl. So this past week I bought a bag of Spot's Stew and have been mixing it with the Pedigree slowly uping the Spot's Stew. I've also tried wetting the food with water and they both turn their noses up to it, so I've gone to adding Chicken Broth to it. Does anyone know if the Chicken Broth is ok for them to have? When picking their dry food I looked for the cheapest while still keeping with the better brands, the gas prices are really hurting us. We also give them real meat when we cook safe foods for them. They've had beef ribs, pork ribs tonight, and we've given them some hotdogs for training. You guys/gals that are more on the up and up on food, are we doing right by the dogs? |

| The first 3 ingredients should be meat, they are carnivores.A sales rep told me once that a little corn is ok,not to be the first ingredient though. |

I'm feeding Rachel Ray's new dog food and my guys love it. I tried Science diet and both of my older Yorkies took one bite and turned up their little noses. After I smelled it my nose about jumped off of my face YUCK. So we switched to can Pedigree .
As for the chicken broth. It isn't going to hurt them. My husband keep reminding me dogs eat road kill but of course he's joking and even will handfeed Maxwell when I am not around. |

I can't watch videos on my crappy slow Internet (lol) sorry.
I heard about the 1st ingredient being meat but not the first 3...the one I'm feeding now the first ingredient is meat I didn't think to check for more..
Whats funny is a few years back people were like, NEVER feed your dogs people food. Now it's ok as long as it's not junk food...which isn't good for people either if you think about it. So I wonder if it is better to mix and make our own dog food? I live on a farm so we have lots of meat, fresh veggies, eggs and all. I wonder also if goat milk would be healthier? Does anyone know good recipes? With the way the economy's going we need to be prepared for everything. Especially for our animal babies. |

Your last 2 sentences says it all . My Maxwell is 13 1/2 and his favorite food is brussel sprouts. I only let him have about 1/2 of one because they give him gas and it's NOT a pretty smell.
He will only eat what I eat and only has 2 teeth so I have had to start eating healthier so he will. It's not our dogs here (at this board) that I worry about , because all of us would buy food for our animals before we'd buy food for ourselves but I worry about the other animals and in the heat it is so sad. |
