I'm wayyy up in Sault Sainte Marie, I've posted in the closest Metro Area to me, Detroit and yet my ad still was deleted. My ad was wasn't within set forth rules of posting and neither is his. "For the sole purpose of driving traffic to this site" is what was quoted on my response email. http://detroit.kijiji.com/c-For-sale-Clothes-fashion-Crackwear-by-Crackhead-Designs-W0QQAdIdZ30859079. This company is doing the same thing I was trying to do, launch a clothing company. Yet, his ad isn't deleted. Bogus.

the ad is deleted. Ads are not reviewed when posted, so if you see an ad violating a policy it is not because we are letting them do it, it is because it has not been seen and/or reported.

As it stands now, I have no intention of using this site. Mainly for the following reasons:

1: The issue of being able to at least post to the NEAREST posting area to you has gone on too long from what I can see in the discussions so far.
While Nashville is the closest Tennessee city to me, Bowling Green KY is just as close and I would like to be able to post in that area should it become available. The people making their arguments about St. Louis and East St Louis and Southern Illinois have an even more valid point than I do.

2: The admin (Kijiji_Kelly) does not seem to be much more than a messenger person to whomever is fronting this thing. And THEY do NOT appear to be inclined to listen to reason.

3: Any good programmer worth his/her salt could set up the registration process to require a registrant to input a "home" zip code and then calculate the closest 4 available posting areas and let the user pick one as a "primary" posting area and another as a "secondary" area. Then when posting they could use a checkbox to decide that an individual post
was to appear in #1 or #2 Or both.

4: If there is no way that you can address the market(s) closest to you in the posting of your ads, then there is no incentive to "pass the word" about the site itself.

5: Apparently, because I was viewing the "Nashville Page" when I hit the register button it arbitrarily decided that I MUST be from that area. What if I wasn't? There is no way to change your primary focus area? How foolish that is. You will do nothing to attract people to posting on your site this way. You are in fact, just driving people away.

I shall NOT RETURN as things stand now.

Goodbye

I completely understand the purpose and reasons for not allowing posting in multiple cities etc. Nobody wants national *SPAM* posts that make the site unuseable. . . BUT, many people... a huge number of people... live outside cities you are serving. These cities, however, are places where we regularly travel and shop.

For example, I live in Mansfield, OH. We are 70 miles South of Cleveland and 70 miles North of Columbus. CraigsList "solved" this problem by adding Mansfield as a city... but that didn't really solve the problem... because if I am looking to buy something, I am willing (in many cases) to drive to Cleveland, Columbus, Akron, Canton, etc. to buy it. This makes your classifieds MUCH more effective - if I am able to respond to (and buy) something that was posted in a nearby city.

As far as I can see, there is no way to search for items across multiple cities - or to search all of Ohio. This would be extremely helpful (the searching) because it wouldn't allow much abuse - as we would only be able to search and see postings.

Most other classified sites allow a broader search area - not just one city at a time. Please consider expanding the search options. As for postings - If I am selling a car (for example), I will post it in Cleveland AND Columbus thru paid classifieds - because I am much more likely to sell it if I post outside my area (but still within a reasonable distance).

If I am willing to pay for something (over using a free service like kijiji), then that indicates there is a real "need" for multi-city postings. Please consider! Thanks!

I live at the border of MA and RI and I would have liked to post my ads on both the states. But I am only posting in MA.

Thanks.

I also have only posted in state; more accidentally than by design as I wasn't aware of this rule. I'm in northern Delaware. Adjacent States are so close that if I threw a rock in a NW direction hard enough it would land in Pennsylvania, if I tossed another SW it would land in Maryland, while another going NE would be in New Jersey.

I understand this site is your ball, therefore you make the rules; but I still decide if I want to play or not. In an age of global marketing, with the internet bringing more and more people together, being confined to one geographical area is just defeating the purpose of being on line. So I think not.

I’ll stop back from Craigslist list at some point in the future, if only to see if the horizon here has broadened.

Please reconsider your out of STATE posting rules. I live in a border city of Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. While I reside in Arkansas, my best sells market is actually in Louisiana. WHY restrict the viewers/buyers from that area from being able to gain access to items from other areas that they might be interested in and more affordable to boot?
I would think that allowing 2 or 3 State postings would serve your viewers better than only allowing posting within the State.
Programming to allow a poster to put in their zip code and then be allowed a 2 State additional posting is quite simple.
PLEASE review your policies and change them to reflect what would be BETTER for the Seller and Buyer.
Thanks,
Nancy

I posted ads and didn't realize that you couldn't have the same ads posted in different cities. My first set of ads ...I had 2 puppies for sale, but made two individual ads for each of the 2 puppies. So 2 ads in each city (3 cities), then I put a combined ad of both puppies in Tulsa and Fayetteville. Those were deleted without any warning or reason. All together 5 ads
I thought I had deleted them on accident or maybe two ads in each city was not allowed.
So..I tried again ...this time combined ads into one ad in each city. They were erased and then I received an email that they were erased for not following posting rules with posting ads in multiple cities and in different states.
OOPS!! I'm sorry I didn't know.
Now that I know that I cannot place ads in a different state, I tried to place an ad in Springfield (where I do not live, you said to pick one...I live in the middle of the state of Missouri, so my closest cities are Springfield, St. Louis, Kansas City) I guess I'm blocked now.
Too bad for me...I've had another ad on here that I got a wonderful response to. i just wish someone had emailed me and told me to remove the other ads that were not in compliance. I would of done it in a heartbeat..but I can't imagine typing out another ad. Kijiji thanks for the help in the past.. but it looks like I'll have to stick with the other classified sites.

when your ads were removed both times a message was included informing you not to post out of state. Since you posted ads again out of state, your ads were removed. You're more than welcome to use our site, we just ask that people make sure to review our posting policies before posting ads to avoid a situation like this from happening.

I agree with the other posters, the site needs to be open to publish to all locations. I am trying to advertise for my new online catalog. I really dont want to target a particular city, but rather the whole country. Since many are creating their businesses online, maybe its time to change the rules to be able to post to multiple cities. Food for thought.

I didn't know that you couldn't post outside of your state so i posted several times outside my state. Kijiji was quick to delete them. I was confused at first as to why they were deleted so i got on this discusion page. Now i know. Sorry for the misunderstanding!
