I posted 2 ads one in St. Louis by mistake, and went to delete it, but not there. Then in Springfield, which is where I want to post, but it's not there either. I've never gotten a confirmation email for any of them Am I doing something wrong?

Be careful that your geographies aren't so rigid that they can't handle bi-state and tri-state communities.

I would suggest that if someone who lived in a region of the country where their closest "major city" was in another state or region, that they might register in that community and not in their own.

My take on Kijiji is that it is intended to provide this service for each local community.

If your "local community" is in another region, you should probably register in that community and not in one which is many miles from your home, though it be in your own state/county etc.

Just a thought.

Rolling Eyes I live on the Ky/Tn line, and posted to the nearest Tn. town that is 45 min. away, spent a good bit of time, doing this, only to have all my ads removed....... this made me furious........I wasted 1.2 a day yesterday doing this, and still do not have answers to my questions.

Louisville is 2.5 hours from me, in my state.... will my ads be pulled if I place them there????

Lexington is about the same distance, can I choose which one???
Or can I post in both???

Or are you only allowed to post in one city ????

Thank you for clearing up the confusion.

Ok, now I am confused...does region include all of the state that you are in, and if so, how can you account for those that live within miles of another city, but live in a different state. Also, I live 45 minutes from three large cities in TN, but I see that I can't have multiple "same" postings in different cities (by reading the rules, that is what I "read").

I just sent this site to a number of fellow crew members in multiple states, and I also see that we can't use this site to gain new crew members, because we do require an upfront fee for joining our company (which is true of all direct sales companies, and it IS NOT illegal for us to work that way). We are a business opportunity, and I don't know any business that you don't have to put money down for in order to own.

example, i'm looking for a particular boat, and although boats can be sold locally, it significantly helps for both seller and buy to reach a bigger audience (i.e. Ebay, Yachtworld...)

Extremely time consuming to be going thorough each individual city to find what I'm lookng for. Suggestions?

Please forgive my ignorance. I only found your site looking for information on Craigslist about an hour ago. Just to reiterate what I've seen so far. I live in Aiken, SC. Next stop, Augusta, GA. This area we affectionately call Georgalina. It may not be local in your server but it's local in our geography. So far, that imaginary line seems pretty rigid at kijiji. It may be the same line once crossed by my imaginary friend.

Let's see, I can post 25 times locally right? Sounds great, as long as what I have can be promoted with a different ad in 25 different categories and each item is stored on the other side of the river. Huh?

Apparently in order to be kijiji friendly, all I need to do is leave my wife, move to Augusta as a single cat lover prepared to sell my extra boat, guitar, jewelery, other tangible items while seeking an alternative lifestyle.

Don't get me wrong, I love free, although nothing really is free. It costs time. BTW, I don't see legal services section? Where do you plan to put the lawyers? Would that be "other" or do we just group them in with pet adoption?

I'd like to see multiple cities as well. I live exactly halfway between 2 large cities but in a small town so I have to decide where I'd like my ad to go but it would benefit me to post in both cities. So far I like this free service but this is the one thing I'd change! Very Happy

I haven't been back since posting that comment. I'm glad you appreciate my sense of humor. I thought it was pretty funny too. I liked Kijiji Kelly's humor as well in her response.

No doubt my Statistics Professor would love this one. Without doing a formal analysis just imagine the geography of all the state lines. Except for about 10 coastal states the major metropolitan areas are in the middle of the state or to one side of the state. If you live in one of these 50 or so areas I'm sure Kijiji is useful.

I wonder if there's a scale of market irritation for everyone else?

Still looking for a true local configuration and a legal category before I post an ad. Till then I'll drop by in another month or two and see if the policy wonk has bothered checking the math.

The policy and theory is reasonable. There is however a complete disconnect between intended policy and implementation. No doubt there's a 16 year old who could write the necessary script on a napkin.

The only thing I can think of keeping it from happening is ego. How do you stroke the boardroom geniuses ego while explaining it's not working?

Meanwhile poor Kijiji Kelly is stuck regurgitating the ridiculous. Something like: Local is in your state no matter where you are. Crying or Very sad

That assumption could only be true in string theory. For the rest of us simple minded average folks, 17 miles across the border somehow seems closer than 70 miles the other way which is Kijiji local. Who knew we were all wrong?

All of my education has obviously gone to waste. Show me the way Kijiji. Thank you. I'm ready to experience the fourth dimension.

Local is where it's at. Distance is an illusion.

Just use different email address for different city. Best if you have Gost IP on your computer. Kijiji is by Ebay. They truck your IP. Worst then IRS.

Ok so i just finished reading that whole drawn out thread....
and pretty much am jsut as confused as i was before i started.

all i want to know is the following:

1- so i can post in all the cities in my state? yes?
------ does this mean that i can post the same ad in all those cities?
-------and does this mean that i can use my 25 postings a day or how ever much to do this
and is there a restiction then on how many posts you can have at one time up?
they stay up for 60 days yes?
so if you posted 25 a day, say one in every city or so, could you reach a limit?

PLEASE CLARIFY for me!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Greetings,

I just wanted to add that not being able to post in multiple cities & of one's own choosing is a real bummer/deal breaker. This is one of the major flaws of craigslist & should not be copied, rather it should be fixed/improved by changing this awful limitation. Not everyone is a spammer/scammer, some of us just have items or properties that ship nationwide or require a broader base than what we can advertise to locally. In this day & age it is very easy to ship an item, & properties are well known to sell to people in different areas from where their primary residence is. In the real world a person can indeed post to classifieds in other cities from the one in which they live, & there are many legitimate reasons for doing so in addition to the ones mentioned above. I don't see how it would be a spam issue because spam is generally considered to be flooding the same channel with the same or similar message, posting in a different city is, well, just posting in a different city. Putting these artificial limits on people where they can advertise to someone 400 miles across the state, yet they can't advertise to someone 10 miles away across the border is kind of... ridiculous.

Also, a really handy feature for buyers is to be able to search not only by their city, but to be able to broaden their search radius incrementally, even so much as to include the entire United States, very convenient. I believe Windows Live Expo had this feature, but they are apparently shutting down in July.

Don't know how well this would work, but a specific nationwide channel that one could advertise in & be searched would be incredibly convenient for certain types of things... because we just don't live in that small world where people are are strictly limited to local dealings anymore.
