Well it depends on what you like in a car. Do you like to drive fast (or at least have a car that will go fast) or you don't care? Domestic or import? How many doors? Cheap on gas? Lots of room for friends or don't care? Do you like working on your car? Old classic or newer? Cheap to fix or don't care? Do you have a favorite Make/Model? Where do you live, country, city, small town? What do the kids at your school drive? Do you even care what the kids at your school think? What are your hobbies? Do you plan to save and spend lots of money on your car? Do you want a car that you can/will keep forever and someday pass on to your kids?
When I bought my first I chose a car that could be fast, cheap to fix, easy to get parts for, easy for me to fix, domestic, and would gain in value over time. I'm 27 now, and 10 yrs ago I chose a 1976 Camaro with a 305 V8. I got rid of it at the age of 21. Last year I went out and bought a 1978 Camaro with a 350 V8 and for a yr used it as a daily driver. Now I'm driving my boyfriend's 2007 Chevy Aveo. I still love my Camaro and I'm now turning it into a street legal drag strip car. When it was new it was worth $5,000. I paid $4,000 and it's worth $7,000 right now. If it was completely done right now it'd be worth near $10,000. My sister on the other hand prefers newer cars. So it's all in what you want and what you're willing to pay. My car will one day go to one of my girls and I plan to buy at least 5 more Camaro's before I die, eachone going to a family member when I pass away.
Older cars are cheaper to fix, as are domestics. Any car before 1980, and a few after, don't have any computer parts to deal with. So they're cheaper to get parts for and cheaper at a shop to fix. |
