When I bought Katy, The Demon Yorkie, she weighed 2.4 lbs on June 2,
today she had her last baby shot and rabies vaccine and she weighs 5.3 lbs. Is she growing too fast ?
Their diet is boiled chicken breast I'd guess about 1/3 cup and their dry dog food is always available. Supper is just their dry dogfood. They get maybe 1 1/2 cookies a day as a treat.
Katy is very very active never walks always runs and we have lots of outside playtime too. I am just worried she is gaining too fast. Maybe she is secretly a german shepherd instead of a Yorkie???? OR maybe I am just worrying to much.
Your advice will be appreciated muchly.

Hello! I read your post and would like to tell you to stop worrying. Toy dogs grow really fast but stop growing at 6 months (24 weeks) old. I have raised toy dogs for going on eight years now and I have seen this before. A good way to get an accurate weight guess is by calculating. What ever they weighed at 12 weeks, then double that. That should be what they will weigh grown at 6 months. A vet can help you determine whether or not you are overfeeding your pet. Yorki's usually weigh around 7-8 pounds grown. I hope I have helped. Thanks you have helped alot. The daddy weighed 4 lbs and mama weighed 5 . Katy was the runt so I figured she be around 5 lbs. Shows you what I know. I just don't want to overfeed her and make her obese.
Thanks for your words.

Now this is not engraved in stone.
But the rule of thumb for estimating the adult
weight on a yorkie is to weight them at 12 weeks.
And double it.
Of course this is an estimate. And could vary
with in a pound or two. Depending.
You can not go by what the parents are.
Especially if they are not Line bred.
Take mine for instance. My male is 4 lbs.
My female is 6. Out of 3 pups. I got
two that were in that 5 lb. size. And one that is
8 to 9 lbs. She inherited her fathers leg length.
And Mothers stockyness.
It is a crap shoot. Matter afact it is one of
my pet peeves. Ads that state the parents
size. And then profess to tell you that the
pups are going to be with in that size.
They are just guesstimating. |

talk about guestimating! In my last litter of ChiPoos... the Mom 6lb Chihuahua and the Dad 4lb toy poodle -- you would think that the pups would be in that range as adults. Well, one new owner emailed me pics and told me the pup, at 12 weeks, was already 6lb!!! WTF? (He was 3lb at 8 weeks)
I have read the 12 week x 2 estimation before but if this is true then that means this guy should weigh 12lb as an adult! How the heck does that happen with a Chi and Toy Poodle???
I think the woman is spiking his food with miracle grow! |

I thought I was supposed to feed her Miracle Grow ? ROFLMAO
You guys have all made me feel better . I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am. This is why I was worried. Once I saw a lady coming out of the vets with her Yorkie. This poor woman I am sure was less than 5 ft. tall and bless her heart she was as round as a beach ball. Her Yorkie was also.
When I got into the vets office I just had to ask how much that poor Yorkie weighed. They told me 30 POUNDS . Can you believe it?
It just broke my heart and the staff was furious.
Thanks again guys. I always laugh at your choice of words when you guys write.
Hugs to all of you
